President Barack Obama just wants to give students the nation's fatherly advice that any of us to our own children: "taking responsibility of our own education, to go to school, attend classes and listen, and do not let failure define who you are as a person. " He advised the students, "We need every one of you to develop your talents, skills, and intellect so you can help solve our most difficult problems" Obama said. "If we do that – if you leave school – that is not only quit smoking, stop smoking you are at home."
The White House had already published their observations on its website on Monday to broadcast most of the objections raised by some school districts around the nation, educators and parents they wanted to know in advance exactly what the president planned to tell his children in his speech. In other words, the White House had to clarify his remarks with these groups before they would agree to allow their children to listen to his speech.
In the prepared speech, Obama tells young people that all the work of parents, educators and others do not care "unless it is presented to schools, and pay attention to teachers."
Obama scheduled to speak, however, has raised some controversy among several conservative organizations and individuals who accused him of trying to launch their arguments too aggressively in a local educational environment. Officials White House, including Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, has said that allegations made by these groups and individuals are nonsense. It seems that these conservative groups are worried that President Obama may be trying to promote the political agenda of his party, such as health care reform in his speech to school children.
Indeed, Obama makes no request for support for the difficult issues facing the nation, including health care during the debate, nor even a reference to the recent scandal in his speech at all. I was just trying to reach children by referring to "his own clumsy way in school and advice to fixed goals and work hard to reach them. "
Is not this the kind of advice that any parent would give his own son to enter a new school year?
In his speech, Obama said: "At the end of the day, we have the most dedicated teachers, most parents support and the best schools worldwide and none of this will matter unless everyone to fulfill their responsibilities. "
While some educators have praised the president's efforts to encourage students to tighten their belts, work hard and pay attention to their teachers, and that the issue is beyond debate, others simply do not like the idea that the president intervening during the school day and attend to their students, and have chosen not to see the address at all.
Obama seems to only want give students some words of encouragement when they return to school. How can it be considered a bad idea?
In conclusion, Obama said: "I hope great things from each one of you. So there we were disappointed – do not let your family or your own country or down. Make us proud. I know you can do it. "
They were simply words of encouragement from the President to the nation's schoolchildren. Evidently, he believed it was important enough to himself.
I wonder whether school districts that decided not to show the address also may reject a president's personal visit to deliver the same speech in one of their schools. If they did decided to refuse to think, what they would actually be teaching your children?
