Michael Jackson is probably the most famous of praise. After all every time someone famous dies someone gives you a compliment. Think of Princess Diana, for example, and the wonderful words spoken by his brother. As compliments go was personal, touching and professional. Probably was, in fact, the perfect compliment. Even those of us who are also deserve less known. After all anyone who has lived and loved has made a contribution to life. Why is it then that so many people find it difficult to write a eulogy? If they talk to their friends about a loved one who died would have no trouble describing its attributes. In fact, when someone dies, family members often want to talk and talk about the deceased, and that seems to help with the grieving process. However, when standing in the church, in the funeral or even words at the tomb seems to fail them.
A good eulogy is about the life and times of the deceased. It should summarize their contributions to their families and the community. I use the word deliberately short because a good eulogy should be short, especially if given in a church. Clergymen and women, you see, might have another funeral or to attend another ceremony. It is polite to ask how long they would like to praise the latter. Three to five minutes is the norm.
Obviously you can not give a full history of the deceased in such a short time, but you can give highlights of their lives. It may be mentioned where they were born and perhaps his love for his birthplace. Alternatively, you can say that the deceased was a wanderer all his life and describe some travel. You talk about your work and above all about personality and hobbies of the deceased. Obviously you mention attributes such as kindness and generosity, but if the family does not care, you can also talk about the weaknesses of the deceased. You could say that Mary was always late for all when he allowed the organization of meetings with her. It could John said that he supported a football team that some were useless, but it certainly could be using its influence in the sky to improve the situation. Accolades should give comfort. Basically praise should leave people comforted and smiling through tears.
